The first secure supervision system for the fire safety systems of the Paris subway was commissioned. This system, designed and deployed by CLEARSY for RATP, is a first as a supervisor enabling remote control of fire safety equipment.
The first centralized supervision of fire safety systems (FSS) for the Paris metro was commissioned during the night of 25 to 26 September 2019. As the supervisor had obtained its SIL2 certification (61508 standard) last July, the CNPP (French national centre of protection and prevention) had confirmed its functional equivalence with the FSS standards. The Graal for the commissioning of a unique system. A pure product of CLEARSY’s safety systems know-how. “The CNPP required an SIL 2 level in this case and it was this requirement that set us apart from the competition“, says Jean-Philippe Pitzalis, General Manager at CLEARSY.
The centralized supervision system developed by CLEARSY enables RATP to concentrate the supervision, monitoring and control of the fire safety systems (detectors, fans, etc.) in the Paris subway stations in a Centralized Fire Safety Station. The first station equipped with the supervisor is Temple station, on line 3. The contract calls for the supervision of 40 stations (work in progress), which will be connected progressively within 2 years. “Knowing that the centralized control station is designed to operate 100% of the network, our system could eventually cover 100% of the stations in the Paris metro“, adds Jean-Philippe Pitzalis.
The system developed by CLEARSY is based on the use of off-the-shelf computers. It is designed to interface with the fire safety systems of different suppliers.
This type of system could be used in other industrial contexts when the places to be monitored are remote from the control/command centres. The security technologies implemented on this project could also be adapted for needs other than fire safety when the controlled equipment is remote. This would considerably increase the number of applications.
